Faces of Montana Series

copysappingtonThis sweet little fellow will warm your heart!  Introducing Sappington, one of my paintings from the new Faces of Montana series.  I have completed four original art pieces thus far for this new series.  Layered with papers, painted again, layered with the sketch of the little donkey, then layered with recycled raffle tickets and finally finished with paints and highlights for the eye, nose, etc.  It truly is a lengthy process but I love it!!  It’s what I do and my passion.  The layering compliments my need for texture in my art.  Sappington will be available in print form.  This is the first time I’ve had prints made of any of my artwork…kind of a huge step for me!

Enjoy your day and thank you for stopping by my blog!!

Christmas Commission

This piece, a commission I completed and shipped a few weeks ago.  I thoroughly enjoyed creating this unique piece.  A friend’s daughter had visited the gallery that represents my work a few months back and saw a piece she liked, thinking about it for a family member.  She contacted me a month later, giving me some insight about the young women who would receive the painting.  I suggested doing a bit larger canvas and we both are happy with the result.  I was able to include almost all of what this young women enjoys, as she is quite talented in the performing arts.  She played the lead role in Alice in Wonderland and is presently in the production of the musical Gloria.   I Dreamed A Dream is her favorite song and I can only imagine she performs it beautifully!  As an artist it truly feels good to create a painting that is one of a kind for another talented artist with passion in her soul for the performing arts.

Merry Moose

Today it is an indoor, studio kind of day.  Our weather is changing, cold, freezing rain and snow to come soon!  Working on my Merry Moose painting.  Thus far I’ve placed four layers.  It needs some serious drying time, putting it away for about 24 hours.  I have completed two commission pieces thus far for the holidays.  One being shipped off later this week and the other delivered locally.  It feels great  creating art for holiday gifting.

Thank you for visiting my blog…have a great day everyone!

Spud

copy TweetieA bit of time has passed since my last post.  It’s been a busy time and I imagine will only get busier as the holidays approach.  Oh, that’s right, Thanksgiving is next week!  Our daughter is coming home (and her little doggie that we love…our grand-dog) for a few days and the time will be marvelous.  I have plans for a relaxing and yummy Thanksgiving day but come Friday, we may have to kick into high gear!  I have some shopping and baking to do and trying to spend some time with other family and friends!  We try to balance the calmness and the running around like crazy!  I love the holidays and oh, yes, I usually start decorating the day after Thanksgiving!  We’ll squeeze it all in, I’m sure!

This painting may stay in my private collection.  Two reasons, one being, years ago I had a special little canary we named Spud.  Little Spud sang and sang for several years, giving us such joy.  I’ve not had another bird since Spud passed into bird heaven but maybe one day.  The other reason for keeping this piece, well. I grew up shy.  It’s been a lifetime challenge for me to force myself to speak out and be heard.  I’ve often told close friends that at times I feel invisible.  They disagree, only because I can talk freely within my close circle.  I still get anxious around groups but I’m learning.  I always think of myself as a late bloomer!  Life is truly a journey and I believe we never stop growing, learning and developing into our purpose!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Heart Hugs

Today I finished this piece, Heart Hugs.  Several months ago I had done a piece with a flower grouping.  Never, never liked it.  I came across that piece over the weekend.  Covering it with gesso and starting over, this is the result.  So much happier with it.  I’ve found in the past that people love art with hearts.  Since the holidays are approaching I’m planning to create a few more heart pieces.

Progress of the canoe painting….

I started a canoe painting a few weeks ago.  This piece has many layers.  This afternoon I had time to add three more layers of papers and paint.  The canoe painting is an art piece I’ve wanted to create for so long.  Being able to finally see it starting to appear on the canvas is so rewarding to me.  At the same time I’m a bit intimidated by the challenge of completing the piece.   Each layer brings that old fear into my mind,  can I do it?  One step at a time, one layer at a time, be mindful and pull away when I am not focused.  To be continued…

Sweet Girl

copy green skirtA new piece for my Collection of Girls.   Hot outside so I’ve retreated to my art studio the last couple days.  Love being outdoors but finishing this piece really felt good!  This piece is for sale.  The words are “Before the rising sun, we fly; so many roads to choose”.   Starting two smaller pieces as well and will post when completed.

Thanks for stopping by my blog…enjoy!

Six Hearts

IMG_6407This piece I have titled Six Hearts.  This canvas I had done about two years ago and it truly needed a facelift!  I covered it with black acrylic paint and started over.  I was not truly in love with it but it is growing on me.  If you click on the photo you can enlarge the image to read the words.

I am still working on the dress collection and have finished two more paintings.  I needed a break from painting the dresses so created the six hearts.

Thanks for visiting my blog everyone!  Hope your heart is filled with joy today!

I’m starting a series of seven mixed-media paintings. This first painting is on a 14 X 14″ gallery wrapped canvas.  All of the pieces will be about dresses.  I’m trying  some new elements, the wire hanger and rick rack are two I’ve placed in this piece. I’ve also written a poem for this piece titled The Dress. This first painting I wanted to share a brief part of the process with a slide show. I trying to stretch myself and explore a bit.
