Summer Art Journal Challenge

copyartjournal3 DSCN3025 DSCN2979

I’ve started a summer challenge.  50 pages in my art journal over the summer!  I’ve challenged other artists to join me on my Facebook page and thus far I have two other artists sharing their art journal pages.  It’s a great way to create and experiment with some new art techniques.  Thus far I have created eight pages.  A great start to my summer challenge.  Hope your summer is beginning to give you joy, fun and many new adventures!

My first three pages!!

All Dressed for Baking!

I’ve created a ton of fun little sketches for the holidays.  This time of the year is full of so many fun events.  Recently, I participated in my very first cookie exchange.  I absolutely loved it and we are planning next years event already!  This sketch is from my art journal, influenced by the sharing of goodies and the flare we have for dressing up during the holidays.  Baking is fun and why not dress it up a bit while we are doing it!!

Wishing all of you the best this special time of the year!

The First Noel

Just for fun this evening I painted this little Christmas scene on a piece of cardboard.  I use a lot of recycled materials in my art and have a huge stash of cardboard pieces.  I love the texture and thickness of cardboard…sometimes I will strip away the first layer so the corrugated layer becomes exposed.  Acrylics tend to soak into cardboard quickly so I mixed water with the paint while applying.  The First Noël is a favorite Christmas song of mine.  I added words that express the meaning of the holiday to me.  As I was painting this piece I felt as if this piece could be an easy, fun project using recycled materials for families to create together.  The trees I made from old book pages.  Even buttons could be glued to the trees.

Finished the second of my 2013 Snowman Collection.  My more playful side coming out in this piece.  Loving life today!  These pieces I hope to place in the two local galleries for the upcoming holiday season.  Off to the studio to continue creating!  Have a great day and thanks for visiting my blog!Copy Weee

Pink Zippers!

IMG_0185I’ve been away for so long!  This piece is a 16 X 20″ gallery wrapped canvas.  A mixed-media piece using zippers for the flower stems.  Approximately 10 layers of recycled papers and acrylics, oil pastels, watercolour pencils, pen…so fun to complete!

Have a great day and thanks for visiting my neglected blog!!

IMG_6104D. Bitty Traveler painting was inspired by a special friend, Diane, who is a member of Sisters on the Fly.  These women have refurbished vintage campers, traveling together, as well as fund-raising for organizations…they do have the best times together!  You can read more about Sisters on the Fly on their website.  They also have a book published about the history of the organization and how it all started.  It even includes yummy recipes.  The Sisters on the Fly helped raise funds for Casting for Recovery, an organization that provides fly fishing retreats for breast cancer survivors.  I volunteer for Casting for Recovery…my first connection with Diane however was through my art!  It’s such a small world…and I love how that common thread somehow finds it way across miles and miles to connect people!  So, this painting truly is a creation from the heart and inspired by a very special lady…thank you Diane!!
